overachiever

I have to confess something to you.  I check our baby registry at Target every single day.  And by every single day, I mostly mean about 2 or 3 times a day.  I just can't help myself.  I really really really like presents.  And even though these presents are for Baby E, I'm pretty sure that she will not be able to open them, so I will get to do the honors.

Loving presents and hating surprises is a silly combination.

Okay, glad I got that out of the way.  I feel a little lighter now.

Yesterday was my first weekly hospital visit.  I'll go on Mondays from now until Evelyn is born.  They did an ultrasound, though not an in-depth one, just to check on the fluid levels and placenta.  And they confirmed that yes, she is still breech.  And then they did a stress test.  I was a little worried about that one because I didn't know what it was.  I was picturing my puffy, swollen body lumbering along on a treadmill while they monitored my heartbeat, which would not work very well because I don't run.  Ever.  But it wasn't anything like that.  I leaned back in a comfy recliner while they hooked my belly up to some wires to get Evie's heartbeat echoing through the room.  Her heartbeat had to increase by 15 beats per minute twice within 20 minutes in order to pass the test (I guess just making sure that her heart was doing what it should as she got active or lazy).  And then every time she kicked, wriggled, or nudged me, I had to press a button to mark it on the paper.

After hooking me up, the doctor left to get me some water.  When she came back five minutes later, Evelyn had already passed the stress test with flying colors.  Her heart rate had gone up and down as needed, and she was punching me like a madwoman.  The doctor said she got a ten out of ten in only five minutes, but I still had to stay on the monitor for 20 minutes.

So now we know that Evelyn is an overachiever, only taking 5 minutes to score 100% instead of the usual 20-40 minutes.  Little kiss-up.
