what's in a name?

We have decided to tell everyone Baby's name because A) we hate keeping secrets, B) this is a silly secret to have to keep, and C) it was only a matter of time until I slipped up and said it anyway, since Kevin and I already call her by her name.  So we are about 99% settled on:

Evelyn Mae Dahl.

I like to call her Evelyn or Evie (pronounced E.V.).  Or Baby E.  Or Bossy Lady, cuz she calls the shots around here.

We decided on Mae as the middle name first.  It's a family name on both sides, plus it's adorable.  And then it was between Eleanor and Evelyn.  One problem we ran into with Eleanor is that I was afraid people would call her Ellie, and it's just too much to have Kellie and Ellie in one family.  Another issue:  Eleanor Mae.  It sounds like El Enormay.  There was an episode of 30 Rock in which they talked about Enormay, the #1 fragrance for plus-sized women.  So as we tried out names and rolled them around, Kevin would start laughing whenever we said Eleanor Mae.  Finally, we couldn't find a set-in-stone meaning for the name Eleanor (Evelyn means beautiful bird).  People were just guessing at the meaning.  And it's sad to have a name without a meaning!  So Evelyn it is, even though it's a bit more of a "popular" name than I would like it to be.

So there ya go!  Evie Mae, we're oh so excited to meet you in a few months!
